Concentration in prayer - Ibn Rajab al-Hanbali

In Islam, prayer occupies, compared to other ritual obligations, a special place and an eminent position. The Arabic word salat connotes the meaning of connection and direct contact. Thus, praying to God for the faithful means placing oneself in His presence, addressing Him without any intermediary, invoking Him, adoring Him directly without any mediation. In this, prayer implies a state of sacredness as important if not more so than that of pilgrimage.
