The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) saw the suffering of his Companions but he was not then able to protect them. He therefore gave them permission to emigrate to Abyssinia saying: "There is a king there with whom people do not suffer injustice, you could go to him until Allah offers you a way out".

This event marked the beginning of emigration; later, it was in Medina that certain companions went to take refuge, followed then by the Messenger (ﷺ).
