Today, there are more than a hundred translations into French. This number, all the same substantial for one and the same text, can give the reader the illusion that he has “a choice”.

All are adorned with a thousand finery to demonstrate their original, even essential character: whether it is a more careful graphic presentation, apologetic prefaces, laudatory recommendations, revisions by various committees and pundits, etc. But, to consider them well, what surprises most is their astonishing similarity.

Our objective is to propose a fundamental approach absent in the French-speaking production which seems to us to be sorely lacking in scientific basis. Just leaf through the introductions and annexes of the available translations: where are those mentioned who gave their lives for the Book of Allah? Where are the detailed and luminous words of the scholars of Islam ? Where are the solid scholarly definitions of the Arabic language and the foundations of the religion? Where are the dazzling commentaries of exegetes? Where are the clear clarifications of hadith scholars? Where are the subtle remarks of jurisconsults?...
