The Koran is the sacred book of the Muslim religion. It is also the first book to be written in Arabic, a language that he helped to establish. The Quran brings together the divine words which were transmitted to the prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) fragmentarily by the archangel Gabriel (Jibril), orally during a period of twenty-three years. It is sometimes also called kitâb (book) or dhikr (reminder).
