Contemporary Fatwâ - Yûsuf Al Qardâwî

The French translation of " Fatâwâ Mu'âsira " by Sheikh Yûsuf al-Qardâwî, presented here, is the first in our language since the publication of this book in the last century.

This translation undertaking was motivated by the growing recognition of this book within French-speaking Muslim circles in recent years, in particular due to the repeated interventions of Sheikh Al-Qaradâwî in debates relating to Islam in Europe.

Concerning his method in the fatwa, Sheikh Yûsuf Al-Qaradâwî stated the major principles that he chose to adopt in his responses to the questions asked of him:

• 1- Avoid sectarianism and blind conformity.
• 2- Favor ease rather than complication.
• 3- Use clear and accessible language.
• 4- Avoid dwelling on unnecessary topics.
• 5- Maintain a happy medium.
